SunSirs: China PA6 Market Tends to be Strong and Volatile January, 2024

In January, the domestic PA6 market was relatively strong and volatile, with most spot prices increasing. According to data monitoring from SunSirs, as of January 31st, the domestic benchmark price of PA6 mixture was 14,775 RMB/ton, with a+0.68% increase or decrease compared to the average price level at the beginning of the month.

In January, the market price of caprolactam fell narrowly from its high point. In the first half of the month, some caprolactam units underwent short repairs, resulting in a favorable supply side situation in the market. The price of raw material pure benzene has been boosted by crude oil, resulting in a stronger cost side price for the month. But as production capacity gradually returns in the second half of the month, downstream demand gradually falls, affecting the weakening operation of the caprolactam market and loosening the support for the cost side of PA6.

In January, the load of PA6 production enterprises rose horizontally, and the average operating rate at the beginning of the month increased from 75% to 79% before stabilizing operations. The market supply has slightly increased compared to the previous period, and the on-site supply is abundant. The inventory level is still not high, the pressure on suppliers is not significant, and there is still support for PA6 spot goods.

In terms of demand: In January, the main downstream industries experienced a decrease in load, and the spinning industry lowered its operating rate by 2% to around 79%. The weaving load has decreased by 12% to 55%, a significant decrease compared to the previous period. However, the pre holiday stocking demand of terminal enterprises has been released, and overall trading is focused on forward contracts. At the same time, midstream traders also engage in restocking operations, which has led to a certain degree of rebound in buying sentiment, smoothing out some downstream negative sentiment. Stable support for PA6 demand side.

The PA6 market in January showed strong fluctuations. The weakening of caprolactam prices has loosened support for the cost side of PA6. The load of domestic polymerization plants remains basically unchanged, and the inventory position remains low. At the end of the month, the demand side stocking and holiday arrangements will increase simultaneously.
