SunSirs: In January, Dimethyl Carbonate Experienced a Weak Decline

February 02 2024 14:35:47     SunSirs (John)

Price trend

According to monitoring data from SunSirs, as of January 31, 2024, the factory price reference for domestically produced industrial grade dimethyl carbonate was 3,900 RMB/ton. Compared with January 1 (reference price for dimethyl carbonate was 4,066 RMB/ton), the price decreased by 166 RMB/ton, a decrease of 4.10%.

Analysis review

From the monitoring chart of SunSirs data, it can be seen that in January, the overall domestic dimethyl carbonate market showed a weak downward trend, with a decline of over 4% during the month. In early January, the trading atmosphere for dimethyl carbonate on the market was light, with new inquiries being cold. Downstream demand for electrolytes and solvents was weak, and overall downstream production was low. The demand side provided insufficient support for dimethyl carbonate, and the focus of dimethyl carbonate transactions was moving towards low levels. As of January 15th, the domestic market price of dimethyl carbonate was around 3,700-4,100 RMB/ton, a decrease of 2.46% in the first half of the year.

In late January, the dimethyl carbonate market maintained stable operation, with some downstream companies stocking up in small quantities before the holiday. The atmosphere in the dimethyl carbonate market was limited, and towards the end of the month, some factories actively shipped and lowered the price of dimethyl carbonate. As a result, the overall dimethyl carbonate market trend once again approached a downward trend. As of January 31st, the domestic market price of dimethyl carbonate was referenced at around 3,700-4,000 RMB/ton, while the lower price was referenced at around 3,600 RMB/ton, with a decrease of 1.68% in the latter half of the month.

Market outlook

As of January 31st, the overall trading atmosphere of dimethyl carbonate was relatively quiet, with a strong wait-and-see sentiment on the market. The improvement performance on the demand side was average. The dimethyl carbonate data analyst from SunSirs believes that as the Spring Festival approaching, the overall changes in the dimethyl carbonate market are limited, and the market situation will be stable and consolidated, and the specific trend still needs to pay more attention to the changes in supply and demand news.
