SunSirs: US Corn Crop Progress Report as of May 7th

The National Crop Progress Weekly Report released by the US Department of Agriculture after market hours on Monday shows that the current corn planting progress in the United States is higher than in previous years and also higher than industry expectations.
In 18 states that account for 92% of the national corn planting area, as of Sunday, May 7th, the corn planting progress in the United States was 49%, compared to 26% a week ago and 21% a year ago, with a five-year average of 42%.
Prior to the release of the report, analysts expected the completion of planting to be 48%, with a forecast range from 34% to 64%.
In the Midwest region, the corn planting progress in Illinois is 73%, compared to 14% in the same period last year, and the five-year average is 46%. Indiana is 36%, compared to 10% in the same period last year, with a five-year average of 29%. 70% in Iowa, 13% in the same period last year, with a five-year average of 53%.
The maize emergence rate has reached 12%, 6% last week, 5% in the same period last year, and an average of 11% in the same period of five years.
