SunSirs: Analysis of the Annual Trend of China PE Market in 2020

January 15 2021 11:19:12     SunSirs (Selena)

Due to the special situation of 2020, under the influence of world public health events, bulk goods was more or less affected. There were also a series of events, such as the announcement of the new plastic restriction order, the surge of demand for prevention and control materials, the investment of new production capacity, and the negative drop of international crude oil. Plastic products was affected to varying degrees. In this environment, the trend of PE market in 2020 was low first and then high, and the three kinds of PE spot rose throughout the year.

According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, the average ex-factory price of LLDPE (7042) in East China was 7,350.00 RMB/ ton on January 1 and 7,883.33 RMB/ ton on December 31, with an increase of 7.26% in 2020. The average ex-actory price of LDPE (2426H) in East China was 8,012.50 RMB/ ton on January 1 and 11,125.00 RMB/ ton on December 31, with an increase of 38.85% in 2020. The average ex-factory price of HDPE (5000S) in East China was 7,916.67 RMB/ ton on January 1 and 8,166.67 RMB/ ton on December 31, with an increase of 3.16% in 2020.

Through the data, it can be found that although the three major varieties of polyethylene rose as a whole, LDPE rose significantly, while HDPE market was relatively weak, and there was a large gap between varieties. It was found that the gap between the three varieties was not obvious in the first half of the year, but different in the second half of the year.

In 2020, the price of PE fluctuated frequently, and the market fell back at the end of the year. Only the high-pressure price was relatively strong, and the linear and low-pressure market was weak, especially the low-pressure varieties. The price difference between the end of the year and the beginning of the year was not much. Under the weak economic environment, the demand was not strong in the peak season, and the orders were not as good as in previous years. SunSirs PE analysts think that the overall market of PE in 2021 may be better than 2020, but the world public health events are repeated and uncertain, the contradiction between market supply and demand still exists, and the trend in 2021 is still difficult.
