On Wednesday, September 2, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released an inventory report showing a decline in U.S. crude oil and gasoline stocks, alongside a rise in distillate inventories for the week ending August 28. U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 4.45 million barrels to 424.46 million barrels. Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.173 million barrels to 205.669 million barrels. Distillate inventories—which include diesel and heating oil—rose by 796,000 barrels to 104.187 million barrels.
The EIA data showing a significant 4.45 million-barrel drop in crude oil inventories, combined with a simultaneous decline in gasoline stocks, reflects robust demand for crude oil. This supports spot crude prices and creates a bullish outlook for crude oil futures.
The 1.173 million-barrel reduction in gasoline inventories indicates healthy end-user demand, providing positive support for spot gasoline prices and signaling a bullish trend.
The 796,000-barrel increase in distillate inventories represents a slight build-up, exerting mild downward pressure on spot distillate prices and signaling a bearish trend.
