SunSirs: Bromine Prices Traded Weakly Last Week (August 24-28)

August 31 2026 13:09:54     SunSirs (John)

Price trend

According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, bromine prices underwent a weak consolidation last week. The average market price was 39,500 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week and 37,700 RMB/ton at the weekend, representing a decline of 4.56% and an increase of 28.23% compared to the same period last year.

On August 27, the SunSirs bromine index stood at 132.98 points, remaining flat compared to the previous day; this figure is 46.01% lower than the cycle peak of 246.32 points (recorded on April 7, 2026) and 125.70% higher than the cycle low of 58.92 points (recorded on October 29, 2014). (Note: The cycle spans from September 1, 2011, to the present.)

Market Analysis

Bromine prices trended weakly last week. In the Shandong region, ex-works prices are currently hovering in the 37,000-38,000 RMB/tonne range. While manufacturers remain reluctant to sell and continue to hold firm on prices, some traders have offloaded stock at lower rates, causing actual transaction prices to edge downward. Regarding demand, downstream requirements remain lackluster, with purchasing limited to immediate, essential needs.

Regarding raw materials, domestic sulfur prices fell overall this week; the average market price was 9,202.33 RMB/ton at the beginning of last week and 8,769 RMB/ton by the weekend, representing a decline of 4.71%—though this remains a 232.45% increase compared to the same period last year. Downstream demand remains steady.

Market Outlook

Bromine prices have recently been consolidating. While upstream sulfur prices have trended weak, bromine supply remains moderate; downstream buyers are purchasing strictly according to need, and with the industry in its off-season, overall trading activity is sluggish amidst a tug-of-war between supply and demand. Prices are expected to continue consolidating, with future trends contingent on downstream market demand.
