SunSirs:The Lithium Hexafluorophosphate Market Continued Its Upward Trend This Week (August 24-26)
August 27 2026 10:16:13     SunSirs (John)
The domestic market for lithium hexafluorophosphate continued its upward trend this week. According to the SunSirs monitoring system, as of August 26, the benchmark price for battery-grade lithium hexafluorophosphate stood at 114,500.00 RMB/ton, marking a 6.51% increase compared to the beginning of the month.
On the raw material front, battery-grade lithium carbonate prices have continued to fluctuate at high levels, providing solid cost support for lithium hexafluorophosphate. Lithium fluoride prices have remained stable at high levels, likewise offering firm cost support for lithium hexafluorophosphate. According to the SunSirs monitoring system, as of August 26, the benchmark price for battery-grade lithium carbonate stood at 151,000.00 RMB/ton, marking a 6.34% increase compared to the beginning of the month (142,000.00 RMB/ton).
Supply side: Supply is currently contracting significantly. Major producers have proactively lowered operating rates—a reduction unlikely to be reversed in the short term—resulting in overall market supply that is less abundant than before. Industry inventories remain low, and the recent tightening of supply-demand dynamics has further accelerated inventory depletion. While a few enterprises are holding small stockpiles in anticipation of higher prices, this has a limited impact on the overall market landscape. Inventories at major producers are expected to decline further; given the boost from the traditional peak season, the low-inventory situation is unlikely to see substantial improvement in the near term.
On the demand side, as downstream electrolyte manufacturers ramp up operating rates, inelastic demand for lithium hexafluorophosphate continues to materialize. However, with raw material prices rebounding and cost pass-through mechanisms constrained, some electrolyte producers are facing significant profit pressure, leading to a more cautious approach toward accepting new orders. While large electrolyte enterprises are aggressively pushing for lower prices, upstream suppliers show limited willingness to accept excessively low quotes, resulting in a protracted price standoff between buyers and sellers.
Market Outlook
The lithium hexafluorophosphate market is currently characterized by a tug-of-war involving cost support, supply contraction, and resilient demand. In the short term, driven by tight supply and high costs, the market is expected to maintain a firm trend; however, breaking the current standoff between upstream and downstream sectors will depend on the price trajectory of lithium carbonate and shifts in the pace of downstream procurement.
