Macroeconomics
1. [Monetary Policy] The central bank released the Report on Monetary Policy Implementation in China for the second quarter of 2026. The report proposes the comprehensive use and timely adjustment of monetary policy tools to maintain ample liquidity and relatively loose social financing conditions; the timely planning and introduction of practical, effective incremental policies to intensify counter-cyclical adjustments; and the expansion of the central bank's macro-prudential and financial stability functions, alongside the innovation of financial instruments, to safeguard the stable operation of financial markets.
2. [Reverse Repo] To better align with the banking system's short-term liquidity needs, the People's Bank of China will conduct overnight reverse repo operations on August 14 and from August 17 to August 19. These operations will utilize fixed-rate, quantity-based tendering, with a daily volume not exceeding 600 billion RMB.
3. [US CPI] Data released by the US Department of Labor shows that the year-on-year growth rate of the US non-seasonally adjusted CPI slowed to 3.4% in July, while the core CPI growth rate slowed to 2.5%. On a month-on-month basis, the seasonally adjusted CPI rose by 0.1% and core CPI by 0.2%; all figures met market expectations. Following the data release, market expectations regarding a Federal Reserve rate hike in September remained generally stable.
Chemicals
1. [Lithium Sulfate] According to Sinomine Resource Group, its subsidiary, Zimbabwe Masvingo Lithium Technology Co., Ltd., has officially received the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certificate issued by Zimbabwe's Environmental Management Agency (EMA). Consequently, the project to produce 100,000 tons of lithium sulfate annually has transitioned from the preliminary preparation phase to the full-scale construction and implementation phase.
2. [BDO] Shaanxi Heimao's 60,000-ton/year BDO plant is currently operating stably; a 45-day maintenance shutdown is tentatively scheduled for August 20, and the situation is being monitored.
Yanchang Petroleum's 100,000-ton BDO plant is undergoing a catalyst replacement from August 4 to August 12, and no spot offers are currently being made to the market.
3. [Potassium Chloride] In the first week of August 2026, port inventories of potassium chloride stood at approximately 3.522 million tons, an increase of 164,000 tons compared to the previous week (end of July) and an increase of 1.858 million tons year-on-year.
4. [Graphite] Tokai Carbon has announced a price increase of 150 JPY/kg for graphite electrodes in the Japanese domestic market, effective October 2026; this applies to all specifications.
5. [TDI] It is reported that the settlement price for TDI from a major manufacturer in Hebei province for the first ten days of August is 17,300 RMB/ton (acceptance bill terms).
6. [Polysilicon] A domestic polysilicon manufacturer has reportedly raised its offer price from the 37-38 RMB/kg range to 40 RMB/kg, citing market conditions and cost factors; market acceptance by other manufacturers and downstream players remains to be seen. Meanwhile, rumors circulating today regarding a collective meeting of polysilicon enterprises scheduled for tomorrow have yet to be verified.
7. [Aniline] On August 13, Dongying Huatai raised its aniline price by 100 RMB/ton; the latest prices are set at 11,900 RMB/ton for cash payment and 12,000 RMB/ton for acceptance bill payment. The company's 100,000-ton capacity unit is operating normally.
