Macroeconomics

1. [PPI] National Bureau of Statistics: In May 2026, China's producer prices for industrial products rose by 3.9% year-on-year and 0.5% month-on-month. Purchase prices for industrial producers increased by 5.8% year-on-year and 1.3% month-on-month. For the January–May period, producer prices rose by an average of 1.0% year-on-year, while purchase prices for industrial producers rose by 1.6%.

2. [CPI] National Bureau of Statistics: In May 2026, the national Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.2% year-on-year. Specifically, prices rose by 1.3% in urban areas and 1.1% in rural areas; food prices fell by 1.7% while non-food prices rose by 1.9%; prices for consumer goods rose by 1.6% and service prices by 0.8%. For the January–May period, the national CPI rose by an average of 1.0% year-on-year. In May, the national CPI fell by 0.1% month-on-month.

3. [Imports & Exports] Data from the General Administration of Customs shows that in the first five months of 2026, China's foreign trade maintained a trend of steady growth. The total value of imports and exports of goods reached 20.68 trillion RMB, up 15.3% year-on-year. Of this total, exports amounted to 11.91 trillion RMB (up 11.8%) and imports to 8.77 trillion RMB (up 20.5%). In May alone, total imports and exports reached 4.45 trillion RMB—exceeding the 4-trillion-yuan mark for the third consecutive month—with the year-on-year growth rate accelerating to 16.9%.

Energy

1. [Crude Oil] International crude oil futures closed lower on June 9. The settlement price for the July contract of US WTI crude oil futures was $88.20 per barrel, a drop of $3.10 or 3.4%. The settlement price for the August contract of Brent crude oil futures was $91.45 per barrel, a drop of $2.80 or 3.0%.

2. [Crude Oil] Data released by the American Petroleum Institute (API) on June 9 showed that US crude oil inventories fell for the eighth consecutive week, and gasoline inventories also declined. For the week ending June 5, crude oil inventories decreased by 9.12 million barrels and gasoline inventories by 1.19 million barrels, while distillate inventories increased by 1.32 million barrels.

3. [Crude Oil] On June 9, Kuwait offered its crude oil to Asian buyers for the first time since the Iran-related disruption of the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes. According to traders, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) is directly supplying at least 4 million barrels of Kuwaiti crude oil to buyers, including those in South Korea.

4. [Coking Coal] On June 9, online auction prices for coking coal in the Xiaoyi market, Lüliang, declined. A total of 15,000 tonnes of high-sulfur prime coking coal (specifications: Ash 10.5%, Sulfur 3.1%, G-value 85) were listed for road transport sale; the starting price was 1,270 RMB/tonne, and the transaction price ranged from 1,535 to 1,540 RMB/tonne. The average transaction price was 1,539 RMB/tonne, down 4 RMB/tonne from the previous auction on June 4.

5. [Petroleum Coke] On June 9, Qirun Petrochemical quoted its petroleum coke at 1,830 RMB/tonne, a decrease of 50 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day. The product has a sulfur content of 4.2%; the company operates a delayed coking unit with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tonnes and a daily output of 700 tonnes.
