Spot Market: On June 9, Guangzhou-based sugar producers and distributors quoted prices of 5,290–5,350 RMB/tonne, down 20 RMB/tonne from June 8. Cumulative sales in Guangxi reached 4.4902 million tonnes by the end of May—a year-on-year decline of 155,100 tonnes; weak domestic sugar consumption has exerted moderate downward pressure on spot prices. Futures Market: The benchmark white sugar contract (2609) on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed at 5,330 RMB/tonne on June 8, down 23 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day, with open interest rising by 16,881 lots. All active contracts closed lower, indicating that futures prices are facing downward pressure in the short term.
