Macroeconomics
1. [Excavators] According to statistics from the China Construction Machinery Industry Association, major excavator manufacturers sold a total of 24,794 excavators in May 2026, a year-on-year increase of 36.2%. Domestic sales accounted for 11,628 units (up 38.6% year-on-year), while exports totaled 13,166 units (up 34.2% year-on-year).
2. [Automobiles] According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), retail sales of passenger cars nationwide in May totaled 1.51 million units, down 22.1% year-on-year but up 9.2% month-on-month. Of this total, retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 950,000 units—a year-on-year decline of 7.5% but a month-on-month increase of 12.4%—with a retail penetration rate of 62.9% within the overall domestic passenger vehicle market.
Plastics and Rubber
1. [PE] On June 8, the operating status of Maoming Petrochemical's PE units was as follows: the No. 1 LDPE unit produced M1850A; the No. 2 LDPE unit switched production to 2426H; the full-density unit produced 7042; and the HDPE unit produced TR400N. Maoming Petrochemical (South China Branch) quoted LDPE 2426H at 10,400 RMB/tonne, down 150 RMB/tonne.
2. [BR] On June 8, the market for polybutadiene rubber (BR) in East China weakened significantly, with spot traders lowering their offers by approximately 300–400 RMB/tonne. Currently, BR from Daqing, Yangzi, and Qilu is quoted at 14,050–14,300 RMB/tonne, while some private brands are quoted around 13,750–14,000 RMB/tonne.
3. [Natural Rubber] On June 8, prices for natural rubber raw materials in Thai producing regions rose: ribbed smoked sheets were quoted at 95.00 THB/kg (up 1.00 THB/kg); field latex at 87.00 THB/kg (up 2.00 THB/kg); and cup lump at 75.15 THB/kg (up 0.15 THB/kg).
