Macroeconomics

1. [Excavators] According to statistics from the China Construction Machinery Industry Association, major excavator manufacturers sold a total of 24,794 excavators in May 2026, a year-on-year increase of 36.2%. Domestic sales accounted for 11,628 units (up 38.6% year-on-year), while exports totaled 13,166 units (up 34.2% year-on-year).

2. [Automobiles] According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), retail sales of passenger cars nationwide in May totaled 1.51 million units, down 22.1% year-on-year but up 9.2% month-on-month. Of this total, retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 950,000 units—a year-on-year decline of 7.5% but a month-on-month increase of 12.4%—with a retail penetration rate of 62.9% within the overall domestic passenger vehicle market.

Energy

1. [Crude Oil] International crude oil futures closed higher on June 8. The settlement price for the July contract of U.S. WTI crude oil rose by $0.76 (0.8%) to $91.30 per barrel. The settlement price for the August contract of Brent crude oil rose by $1.16 (1.3%) to $94.25 per barrel.

2. [Crude Oil] A preliminary survey released on Monday indicated that crude oil inventories likely fell last week, with declines also expected in distillate and gasoline stocks. Four analysts estimated an average drop of approximately 3.4 million barrels in crude oil inventories for the week ending June 5. Estimates suggested a decrease of about 600,000 barrels in U.S. gasoline stocks and a reduction of roughly 200,000 barrels in distillate stocks (including diesel and heating oil).

3. [Crude Oil] On June 8, Russia was preparing to significantly cut crude oil exports this month. Calculations based on preliminary industry and trade data indicate that crude oil exports from Russia's western ports—Primorsk, Ust-Luga, and Novorossiysk—are expected to drop from 2.5 million barrels per day in May to approximately 1.7 million barrels per day in June.

4. [Crude Oil] A schedule released on Monday showed that exports of Azerbaijani BTC crude oil from the Turkish port of Ceyhan are set at 15.81 million barrels for July, compared to a planned 15.78 million barrels for June. Calculations indicate that Azerbaijan's average daily crude oil exports via the BTC pipeline in July will decrease by approximately 3% compared to June (noting that June has one fewer day than July).

5. [Crude Oil] Saudi Aramco has lowered the price of Arab Light crude oil destined for Asia next month by $6 per barrel; following this adjustment, the official selling price premium over the Oman/Dubai average stands at $9.50 per barrel.

6. [Fuel Oil] On June 9, data compiled by the fuel price platform GasBuddy showed that the average U.S. retail gasoline price fell by 17.9 cents last week to $4.09 per gallon—a drop of 45.2 cents from a month ago, though still $1.02 per gallon higher than the same period last year. The national average diesel price dropped by 13.8 cents last week, currently standing at $5.299 per gallon.

7. [Coke] Certain steel mills in the Xingtai region and major steel mills in the Tangshan market have raised prices for wet-quenched coke by 50 RMB/tonne and dry-quenched coke by 55 RMB/tonne, effective from midnight on June 10, 2026.

8. [Coking Coal] As of the morning of June 8, a total of 70 coking coal mines in Shanxi had resumed production (representing a capacity of 85.15 million tonnes), while 65 mines remained shut down (representing a total capacity of 69.75 million tonnes).

9. [Petroleum Coke] On June 8, Yatong Petrochemical quoted petroleum coke at 2,320 RMB/tonne, down 130 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day. The product has a sulfur content of 4.3%; the delayed coking unit has an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes and a daily output of 850 tonnes.
