Macroeconomics

1. [Logistics Industry Prosperity Index] According to data from the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing (CFLP), China's Logistics Industry Prosperity Index stood at 50.3% in May—an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the previous month—marking a return to the expansionary zone.

2. [U.S. Tariffs] The Trump administration has announced the imposition of additional tariffs on imports from 60 economies in response to their failure to effectively curb the importation of goods produced via forced labor. Under the USTR's proposal, goods from countries including Canada, Ecuador, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom will be subject to a 10% tariff; goods from the remaining 45 countries will face a higher tariff rate of 12.5%. This action comes as the 10% provisional tariffs, previously implemented by the Trump administration on February 20, are set to expire on July 24.

3. [U.S. ADP Employment] U.S. private-sector employment, as measured by the ADP National Employment Report, rose by 122,000 in May; this figure exceeded market expectations of 117,000 and the previous month's reading of 109,000.

4. [Bank of Japan] Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that rising oil prices are highly likely to broadly push up overall price levels. He projected that Japan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) would accelerate significantly in fiscal year 2026 and indicated that the central bank would proceed with interest rate hikes at an appropriate time, based on economic and price trends. This statement has further reinforced market expectations that the Bank of Japan will raise interest rates at its policy meeting this month.
