SunSirs: A Brief Analysis of China's Imports and Exports of Chlorinated Methanes (January–February)

Dichloromethane:

According to the latest customs data, in January 2026, China imported 20.6 tons of dichloromethane—a month-on-month increase of 25.3% and a year-on-year increase of 40.0%. Exports totaled 21,448.9 tons—a month-on-month increase of 34.4% and a year-on-year increase of 43.7%. In February, imports fell to 6.6 tons—a month-on-month decrease of 67.8% and a year-on-year decline of 28.3%. Exports dropped to 13,156.5 tons—a month-on-month decrease of 38.7% and a year-on-year decrease of 21.7%.

In January and February 2026, China imported 27.2 tons of dichloromethane, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.3%; exports totaled 34,605.4 tons, an increase of 9.1% compared to the previous year. In terms of export destinations, during the January–February 2026 period, China's dichloromethane exports to the UAE, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey, and Pakistan ranked as the top five destinations. These five markets collectively accounted for 17,110.8 tons of exports, representing 49.4% of total exports. Specifically, exports to the UAE amounted to 6,607.0 tons (19.1% of the total); Brazil, 4,012.7 tons (11.6%); Vietnam, 2,382.8 tons (6.9%); Turkey, 2,150.1 tons (6.2%); and Pakistan, 1,958.0 tons (5.7%).

Chloroform:

According to the latest customs data, in January 2026, China imported 1,600.2 tons of chloroform, a month-on-month decrease of 11.1%; exports totaled 117.0 tons—a month-on-month increase of 39.3%, yet a year-on-year decrease of 61.1%. In February, imports stood at 60.1 tons, down 96.2% month-on-month; exports reached 60.2 tons—a month-on-month decrease of 48.5%, but a year-on-year increase of 50.6%.

In January and February 2026, China imported 1,660.3 tons of chloroform. Cumulative exports totaled 177.2 tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 152.9%.

In terms of export destinations, during January and February 2026, China's chloroform was primarily exported to South Korea and Brazil, with combined exports reaching 177.0 tons—accounting for 99.9% of the total export volume. Specifically, exports to South Korea amounted to 153.0 tons (86.4% of the total), while exports to Brazil totaled 24.0 tons (13.5%). All trade was conducted under the category of general trade.
