SunSirs: Global Sugar Surplus Significantly Reduced

March 13 2026 10:40:02     SunSirs (Selena)

The global sugar surplus during the 2025/26 crushing season (October to September) has been significantly reduced from the previously estimated 2.9 million tons to approximately 870,000 tons, a decrease of up to 70%.

The article shows that the global sugar surplus during the 2025/26 crushing season has been reduced from 2.9 million tons to 870,000 tons, a decrease of 70%, indicating a significant tightening of supply, which may drive up spot prices due to improved supply and demand. In terms of futures, the main contracts for white sugar, such as the closing price of 5,416 RMB/ton (up 18 RMB) at 2605 and 5,447 RMB/ton (up 20 RMB) at 2609, have active trading volume and increased holdings (such as the change in holdings at 2609 +5,216), indicating an increased bullish sentiment in the market and a clear upward trend in futures prices. This change constitutes a significant positive development, as the decrease in excess volume far exceeds expectations, strengthening price support expectations.
