According to the latest national sugarcane crushing report released by the National Cooperative Sugar Refinery Federation of India, India has crushed 260.896 million tons of sugarcane so far, an increase of 22.119 million tons compared to the same period in the 2024-25 crushing season. Thanks to the improvement in sugarcane supply in major production areas and the increase in the national average sugar yield, sugar production (excluding the portion converted into ethanol) also increased to 24.63 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.625 million tons.
India's sugar production increased by 2.625 million tons to 24.63 million tons year-on-year, while sugarcane crushing increased by 22.119 million tons. The expectation of oversupply has strengthened, putting significant downward pressure on spot prices. In terms of futures market, the settlement price of the main sugar contract 2605 on Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange recently reached 5,323 RMB/ton (up 5.00), but the bearish fundamentals may suppress future gains or lead to a pullback. The decrease in holdings by 16,529 lots indicates that some funds have withdrawn. It is recommended to pay attention to the suppressive effect of supply pressure on medium-term prices.
