According to the China Iron and Steel Association, by the end of 2025, China's steel industry will complete its ultra-low emission retrofitting project, with over 80% of crude steel production capacity achieving ultra-low emissions.
According to Zhao Mingge, President of the China Iron and Steel Association, the “Three-Year Action Plan for Energy Efficiency Benchmarking in the Steel Industry” launched at the end of 2022 has become a core driver for energy conservation, carbon reduction, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement. Among the 143 pilot enterprises, blast furnace and converter energy consumption decreased by 2.5% and 12.2% respectively compared to 2023. Over two years, these two processes cumulatively saved 13.2 million tons of standard coal equivalent and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 34 million tons.
Furthermore, China's steel industry continues to enhance its green and low-carbon development capabilities. Cutting-edge low-carbon metallurgical technology demonstration projects—including Baowu's hydrogen-rich carbon-cycle oxygen blast furnace commercial demonstration, Zhanjiang Steel's near-zero-carbon factory, and China Iron & Steel Research Institute's pure hydrogen vertical furnace demonstration line—have been successively implemented. This positions China's low-carbon metallurgical technology innovation and application among the world's leading ranks.
