On January 12th, the transaction volume of iron ore at major ports nationwide was 752,400 tons, a decrease of 19.7% compared to the previous day; the transaction volume of construction steel among 237 mainstream traders was 105,800 tons, an increase of 18.5% compared to the previous day.
Iron ore transactions decreased by 19.7% daily, indicating a significant weakening of demand, which was putting downward pressure on spot prices and could lead to oversupply and price declines. Combined with recent data on iron ore futures contracts, such as fluctuations in the price of the main contract, the decline in trading volume may exacerbate bearish sentiment in the futures market, triggering a risk of price correction.
Transactions of construction steel increased by 18.5% daily, reflecting a strong recovery in demand, which provided upward support for spot prices and may drive inventory reduction and price increases. Based on the latest market trends of construction steel-related futures (such as rebar), the increase in transactions may boost bullish sentiment in the futures market and lead to price increases.
As an integrated internet platform providing benchmark prices, on January 14th, SunSirs’ benchmark price for Australian iron ore was 839.33 RMB/ton, an increase of 2.72% compared to the beginning of the month (817.11 RMB/ton).
Application of SunSirs Benchmark Pricing:
Traders can price spot and contract transactions based on the pricing principle of agreed markup and pricing formula (Transaction price=SunSirs price + Markup).
