SunSirs: The Chloroform Market Experienced a Significant Upward Trend in November

December 11 2025 11:27:41     SunSirs (John)

Price trend:

In November, the domestic chloroform market experienced a significant upward trend. According to the commodity price analysis system of SunSirs, as of November 30th, the bulk price of chloroform in Shandong province was 1,800 RMB/ton, an increase of 8.00% compared to 1,666 RMB/ton at the beginning of November.

Market Analysis

Methanol prices remained stable within a narrow range, while liquid chlorine prices rose sharply, providing support for chloroform costs. Downstream demand for R22 was weak; however, low operating rates in the chloromethane industry in early November led to tight market supply, supporting the upward trend in chloroform prices.

In November, the operating rate of domestic methane chloride plants gradually increased from 63% at the beginning of the month, reaching approximately 80% by November 30th.

In November, the price of methanol, a raw material, fluctuated within a narrow range, while the price of liquid chlorine trended upward, providing continued cost support for chloroform. According to the business data analysis system of SunSirs, as of November 30th, the spot price of methanol was 2,120 RMB/ton, a decrease of 1.62% compared to 2,155 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month; as of November 30th, the price of liquid chlorine in tank trucks in Shandong province was around 100 RMB/ton, an increase from 50 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month, but a decrease from the peak of 150 RMB/ton during the period.

In November, downstream demand for refrigerant R22 remained weak, and prices were stable, providing limited support for chloroform demand. Furthermore, the R22 quota was decreasing year by year, which was a negative factor for chloroform in the medium to long term. In 2013, China's baseline production quota for second-generation refrigerants was 426,400 tons. After several reductions, this was reduced to 163,600 tons by 2025. Of this, the production quotas for R22, R142b, and R141b were 149,100 tons, 3,400 tons, and 9,200 tons respectively.

Market Forecast:

According to data analysts at SunSirs, the price of methanol, a key raw material, is expected to rise in the future, which will continue to support the cost of chloroform. As of the end of December, demand for the downstream product R22 refrigerant was slowing, and export trends remained uncertain.  Overall, chloroform prices are expected to fluctuate and consolidate in the coming period.
