SunSirs: China's Melamine Production Capacity Reaches 2.42 Million Tons in First Eight Months

According to statistics from the China Nitrogen Chemical Industry Association, melamine production capacity has grown at an average annual rate exceeding 5% in recent years. In 2024, domestic melamine production capacity reached 2.31 million tons, with output at 1.642 million tons—a 9.8% increase over 2023—and an enterprise operating rate of 71%. From January to August 2025, domestic capacity reached 2.42 million tons with output at 1.118 million tons, marking a 3.8% year-on-year increase, while the industry-wide operating rate declined to 69%.
By the end of 2025, total industry capacity is projected to reach 2.6 million tons, with an additional 940,000 tons of new capacity scheduled to come online in the coming years.
