SunSirs: Activated Charcoal Prices Rose due to Supply Shortage

According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of activated charcoal was 12,933 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week and 13,000 RMB/ton at the weekend, with a price increase of 0.52%.
Analysis review
Domestic activated charcoal manufacturers saw an increase in prices this week. The ex-factory price of coconut shell activated charcoal for water purification in East China was between 9,500 and 13,000 RMB/ton. As of September 11, the supply of coconut shell raw materials remained tight, and the demand for coconut shells in porous carbon materials for new energy batteries is rising, intensifying competition for raw materials. This led to a decline in coconut shell activated charcoal production capacity, supply shortages, and price increases.
From the supply side, natural disasters had affected the main coconut-producing areas of Southeast Asia, leading to a decline in production and rising costs for domestic companies that rely heavily on imports. Coconut production in countries like the Philippines and Indonesia has also been affected, resulting in a reduction in the supply of coconut shell raw materials and an increase in demand for coconut shell activated charcoal in areas such as new energy batteries and gold extraction, driving up prices.
Future outlook:
With the increasing demand in the domestic market, it is expected that the price of activated charcoal will fluctuate and rise in the short term.
