SunSirs: Brazil’s Foreign Trade Commission Maintains 10.8% Tariff on Natural Rubber from Countries Outside the South American Common Market

September 01 2025 15:12:32     SunSirs (Selena)

On Thursday, August 28th, according to the joint meeting minutes released on Wednesday, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Commission (Camex) approved the maintenance of a 10.8% tariff on natural rubber imports from outside the South American Common Market (Mercosur). According to this decision, the import tariffs on natural rubber or pellets and pressed rubber will be increased from 3.6% to 10.8% for a period of 24 months.

The Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) has requested to maintain high levels of tariffs. Earlier this month, rubber producers and processors called on the federal government to maintain the 10.8% tariff.

This rate is reviewed every two years. In 2023, to help domestic industries struggling due to low commodity prices and the influx of imported products from Southeast Asian countries, the committee will raise tariffs from 3.6% to 10.8%. In July of this year, the National Tire Industry Association (Anip) representing Brazilian tires requested Camex to reduce import tariffs on natural rubber.
