At the beginning of the month, the domestic phenol market remained largely stable with minor fluctuations. According to data monitored by SunSirs, in the East China market, the domestic phenol market price was 6,643 RMB/ton on August 1st, and 6,603 RMB/ton on August 8th, a decrease of 40 RMB/ton, or 0.6%. Nationwide, all major markets experienced similar slight declines.

Analysis review

Last week, the domestic phenol market remained largely stable with minor fluctuations, and trading sentiment remained subdued. As of August 8, the reference price in the East China market was between 6,590 and 6,620 RMB/ton. From a cost perspective, the price of raw material benzene was relatively strong during the week. While this provided support, end-user purchasing interest was weak, putting traders under significant pressure to ship. However, given that domestic cargoes were delayed due to the typhoon, traders had limited room to offer margin concessions. Consequently, the domestic phenol market remained largely stable with minor fluctuations, resulting in subdued trading.

Regarding facilities: Shanghai Xisa restarted, Dalian Hengli increased capacity, and Zhenhai Refining and Chemical increased supply.
