SunSirs: Waste Paper Rebounds & Corrugated Paper temporarily Stabilizes, with Short-term Slight Increase

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of waste paper in Zhejiang Province has recently stopped falling and rebounded after a brief period of stability. On April 12th, the average purchase price of A-grade waste yellow cardboard in Zhejiang Province was 1,498 RMB/ton, an increase of 3.17% compared to the average price of 1,452 RMB/ton on April 1st. The price of corrugated paper has temporarily remained stable. On April 12th, the average ex factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 2,696 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average price on April 1st.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that in April, the price of waste paper in Zhejiang region stopped falling and stabilized, and saw an increase after the end of the Qingming holiday. Waste paper prices in other regions of China have also been continuously increasing. Due to the unexpected decline in the price of waste yellow cardboard in March, there are concerns about weak demand expectations. However, weak demand expectations have not been confirmed yet, and the market may re-examine the current economic situation and drive demand for paper products. In addition, after the concentrated increase in the amount of waste yellow cardboard in the early stage, the supply of waste yellow cardboard weakened in April, and the decrease in the amount of waste paper received drove up the purchase price of paper mills.

The price of corrugated base paper is temporarily stable, and the paper market will re-examine the demand expectation for packaging paper in April, so there is a driving expectation for packaging paper demand. Although the prices of raw materials and waste paper have recently increased, the corrugated paper market is temporarily in a wait-and-see state, with prices mainly operating steadily. However, driven by consumption during the May Day holiday, there will be an increase in demand for corrugated paper products. In other periods, the expected increase in demand is limited, and the pattern of oversupply in the market may be difficult to change.

The price of gray background whiteboard paper has been running steadily. On April 12th, the average market price of 250g gray background whiteboard paper was 3,882.33 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average market price on April 7th. The current inventory of gray background whiteboard paper is still at a high level, and market demand is not recovering enough, putting pressure on paper mill shipments. Although the price of waste paper has recently increased, which has helped to support costs, the lack of downstream demand and market supply pressure have affected the price, so the price is temporarily stable and wait-and-see.

According to paper analysts from SunSirs, the current prices of raw material waste paper have returned to calm after rising, and some paper mills in certain regions have seen a decline in waste paper prices. Therefore, the future trend still needs to pay attention to the demand of paper mills, and it is expected that the short-term increase in waste paper prices will narrow. In April, corrugated paper and gray background white board paper mills were affected by the previous price decline, and some paper mills faced increased profit pressure. As a result, small and medium-sized paper mills may experience shutdown, and the expected spot supply may decrease. It is expected that the prices of corrugated paper and gray background white board paper will maintain stable operation in the short term.
