SunSirs: China Wastepaper and Corrugated Paper Remain Stable after the Spring Festival

February 26 2024 14:15:12     SunSirs (Selena)

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of waste paper in Zhejiang region remained stable last week. On February 23, 2024, the average purchase price of A-grade waste yellow cardboard in Zhejiang Province was 1,530 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average price on February 18. The price of corrugated paper is temporarily stable. On February 18th, the average ex factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 2,784 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average price on February 18th.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the price of waste paper in Zhejiang Province remained stable in the first week after the Spring Festival, and only a few companies in the domestic waste paper market adjusted their prices. In terms of supply, there has been a large-scale rain and snow cooling weather in the central and eastern regions of China recently, which has greatly suppressed the supply of waste paper due to the impact of this rain and snow weather.

At present, there are still some packing stations that have not yet started, and some of them said that the commencement would be delayed until after the RMBxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival). In terms of paper companies, due to the impact of this rainy and snowy weather, the amount of waste paper received by paper companies has decreased. However, due to sufficient reserves before the holiday, the willingness of paper companies to raise the price of waste paper is still weak, so the purchase price of waste paper is maintaining stable operation.

The price of corrugated base paper has remained stable. After the Spring Festival, many regions in China have experienced rainy and snowy weather, and road cleaning will take some time to recover. In the short term, the market shipping process will still be affected to some extent. Logistics obstruction has a certain impact on the shipment of corrugated paper and the arrival and storage of upstream raw material waste paper.

At present, most of the corrugated paper enterprises have entered the stage of production recovery, while the downstream packaging plants have resumed operation. Most of the small and medium-sized enterprises have resumed work after the RMBxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival), so there are fewer orders. On February 22nd, Jiulong Duo Base issued a notice on the price increase of corrugated paper, undoubtedly deepening the upward trend of raw paper.

The paper analyst from SunSirs believes that the current price increase trend after the Spring Festival is brewing, and it is expected to drive more regional enterprises to join this trend in the coming days. However, downstream raw material reserves can basically maintain normal production, and the impact on raw paper procurement is not significant. With the normal operation of domestic packaging stations and the gradual recovery of logistics, there will be a concentrated increase in the supply of waste yellow cardboard. It is expected that the prices of waste paper and corrugated paper will temporarily remain stable and slightly strong in the short term.
