SunSirs: 2023 US Tire Import Market: Strong Performance of Thai Tires, Significant Decline in Chinese Tires

In 2023, there were significant changes in the US tire import market. According to the latest data, the total number of imported tires for the year reached 254.47 million, a decrease of 10.5% compared to the same period last year. Among different types of tires, the import volume of passenger car tires showed a slight increase, with a year-on-year increase of 1.1% to 165.22 million tires. However, the import volume of tires for trucks, aircraft, motorcycles, and bicycles has all experienced varying degrees of decline.

Thailand and China play an important role in the source countries of tire imports in the United States. However, this year the performance of the two countries in the US market has shown completely different trends. The import volume of Chinese tires in the United States has significantly decreased, with a total of 25.61 million pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 35%. Among them, the import volume of passenger car tires and truck passenger car tires decreased by 17% and 39% respectively. On the contrary, Thai tires have shown strong performance in the US import market, with a total of 56.16 million tires, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%. Especially for passenger car tires, the import volume increased by 19.6% year-on-year to 36.38 million pieces. Although the import volume of truck tires has declined, the overall performance is still better than that of China.
