According to the monitoring of the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of eggs at the beginning of this month was 9.78 RMB/ton/kg, and at the end of this month, the price of eggs was 9.46 RMB/ton/kg, an increase of 3.27%, and a decrease of 6.43% compared to the same period last year.

Analysis review

April is the traditional off-season for egg consumption. Currently, eggs are at a high price, and the purchasing power of the end market is average. As of the 26th, eggs were at a high price, with average purchasing power in the terminal market. The shipment of egg market was slowly, and there were no signs of stocking in the market. In addition, there was an increase in precipitation in many areas in the south and north recently, and the weather in the south was relatively hot, making it difficult to store eggs. Some farmers were concerned about the risk of egg mold, which increased downward pressure on the market.

The replenishment in April was slightly lower than in March, and the impact of replenishment in the second quarter on the inventory in production was limited. The increase in inventory is mainly due to the prolonged elimination of chickens, as the relatively small number of newly produced hens in April and May will also support egg prices. As of the week ending April 23, the national egg production inventory was 1.22 days, a decrease of 0.08 days compared to the previous week and a year-on-year decrease of 0.34 days. The circulation inventory was 0.96 days, a decrease of 0.04 days compared to the previous week and a year-on-year increase of 0.02 days.

Market outlook

As the May Day holiday approaches, stocking up has boosted egg prices. However, with the arrival of the southern rainy season, the difficulty of egg storage has increased, and egg prices are under pressure. It is expected that egg prices will mainly fluctuate broadly in the short term.
