SunSirs: Indonesian Nickel Pig Iron Output Slows Down in February 2023

According to statistics, Indonesia's nickel pig iron production in February 2023 was 105,100 tons, an increase of 3.96% month-on-month and 27.54% year-on-year. In February, Indonesia added a total of 2 ferronickel production lines. The commissioning of some nickel pig iron production lines in Indonesia in February has been delayed compared to the original plan. Although some new production lines were added in January, the volume did not increase as scheduled in February. Due to the recovery of the new energy market, high-nickel matte is more profitable than nickel pig iron, so the driving force for enterprises to switch production has once again increased, and there are still production lines that switch from high-nickel pig iron to low-ice to high-ice.

It is understood that the high-grade ore in Indonesia has recently been tightening, and the cost may rise to a certain extent, but it has not affected the production of high-nickel pig iron production line so far. In addition, problems with power equipment in some parks in Indonesia are expected to continue to affect the pace of nickel pig iron production in March. Indonesian nickel pig iron production is expected to reach 105,800 tons in March.
