Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that coke production in August stood at 39.92 million tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%; cumulative production for the January–August period reached 334 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%.
With August coke output at 39.92 million tonnes (down 6.2% year-on-year) and cumulative output for January–August at 334 million tonnes (up a slight 0.3% year-on-year), the short-term contraction in supply is providing bullish support for spot prices. Regarding futures, the benchmark coke contract (J2701) on the Dalian Commodity Exchange closed at 2,055.5 RMB/tonne on September 14, 2026—a daily decline of 37 RMB/tonne—though expectations of supply tightening are likely to provide some upward support for futures prices.
