[Automotive] Data released by the CPCA (China Passenger Car Association) shows that retail sales in the national passenger vehicle market totaled 1.541 million units in August, a year-on-year decline of 23.6%. Of this total, retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 1.005 million units—down 10.1% year-on-year—with a market penetration rate of 65.2%.
2. [ECB] The European Central Bank is set to announce its interest rate decision on Thursday; a 25-basis-point rate hike is expected.
Chemical
1. [Lithium Carbonate] Recently, the first phase of Hunan Anneng Future Energy Technology Co., Ltd.'s project—with a total planned annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate—officially launched the first stage of public consultation regarding its ecological impact assessment. The core component of Phase I is a production line with an annual capacity of 7,500 tonnes of lithium carbonate, supported by facilities producing 25,000 tonnes of potassium-sodium mixed salts and 13,000 tonnes of chloride salts annually.
2. [Ethanol] Sichuan Hongzhan's fermentation ethanol plant, which has an annual capacity of 300,000 tonnes, began maintenance on June 15, 2026; the work is expected to conclude in mid-September.
3. [BDO] At Inner Mongolia Sanwei's 300,000-tonne BDO plant, catalyst replacement on one production line began on September 7. Overall operating load has dropped to 40-50% of capacity, and the maintenance period is expected to last 20 days.
4. [Diethylene Glycol] On September 8, the total volume of diethylene glycol shipped from two storage areas in Zhangjiagang was 134 tonnes, an increase of 68 tonnes from the previous day. As of now, the combined inventory at the Yangtze International and Vopak terminals stands at 3,100 tonnes.
5. [Styrene] On September 10, Lihuayi Weiyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. quoted styrene at 9,950 RMB/ton, an increase of 280 RMB/ton from the previous trading day.
6. [Melamine] On September 10, Shandong Shuntian's ex-factory price for melamine was 6,020 RMB/ton, up 20 RMB/ton from the previous quote.
