[Automotive] Data released by the CPCA (China Passenger Car Association) shows that retail sales in the national passenger vehicle market totaled 1.541 million units in August, a year-on-year decline of 23.6%. Of this total, retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 1.005 million units—down 10.1% year-on-year—with a market penetration rate of 65.2%.

2. [ECB] The European Central Bank is set to announce its interest rate decision on Thursday; a 25-basis-point rate hike is expected.

Non-ferrous metals

1. [Aluminum] According to sources, low water levels in Indonesia have disrupted shipments of some domestic bauxite; if the situation does not improve, it could hinder alumina production. For the time being, this situation is expected to persist.

2. [Gold] The Swiss government has announced a ban on the purchase and import of gold originating from Sudan, as well as a ban on the sale to Sudan of specific goods used for gold mining and extraction.
