Price trends
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, domestic prices of sodium metabisulfite fell last week; the average price of industrial-grade sodium metabisulfite dropped by 0.67%, moving from 3,996 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week to 3,970 RMB/ton by the weekend.
Market analysis
Last week, the domestic market price of industrial-grade sodium metabisulfite (96.5% purity) declined. Prices of upstream raw materials have recently diverged; with some raw material costs dropping, the cost support for sodium metabisulfite has weakened, exerting downward pressure on prices.
Factory operating rates remain generally normal, and market supply is relatively ample; the supply tightness previously caused by environmental restrictions has eased, resulting in minimal supply-side pressure. Downstream buyers are largely limiting purchases to immediate needs—buying only as required—without significant demand for large-scale stockpiling, meaning overall demand is exerting limited upward pressure on prices.
Market outlook
Domestic downstream demand for sodium metabisulfite is primarily driven by immediate needs; consequently, domestic market prices are expected to exhibit a fluctuating, slightly bearish trend in the short term.
