Domestic LDPE imports totaled 142,300 tonnes in July 2026, representing a month-on-month change of +24.61% and a year-on-year decline of 44.54%.
The 44.54% year-on-year drop in domestic LDPE imports indicates a significant contraction in import supply, providing strong support for spot prices. Polyethylene futures trended upward overall; the benchmark 2701 contract closed at 8,098 RMB/tonne on August 31—up 272 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day—with open interest rising by 23,077 lots. Increased market interest has provided further bullish support for futures prices.
As LLDPE and LDPE both belong to the polyethylene category, the sharp decline in LDPE imports has fueled bullish sentiment across the polyethylene market. Coupled with the general rise in polyethylene futures contract prices, this has exerted a slightly positive influence on both spot and futures prices for LLDPE.
HDPE and LDPE fall under the broader polyethylene classification; the contraction in LDPE imports benefits the entire polyolefin sector. Combined with the strong performance of polyethylene futures, this provides a measure of bullish support for HDPE spot and futures prices.
