On August 19, the coal sector strengthened after some initial volatility, showing a broad-based rally during morning trading. Baotailong (601011.SH) surged straight to the daily limit, while stocks such as Dayou Energy (600403.SH), Zhengzhou Coal Industry & Electric Power (600121.SH), China Coal Energy (601898.SH), Shaanxi Heimao (601015.SH), and Jinkong Coal Industry (601001.SH) followed suit. Bullish sentiment within the sector continued to build, with Shaanxi Heimao subsequently hitting the daily limit as well.
Regarding market news, coke prices have continued to rise; as of August 17, the latest quote reached 1,868.75 RMB per tonne, marking a cumulative increase of 11.40% over the past 90 days. Furthermore, the market is currently in the peak summer energy-consumption season. Temperatures across most of the country remain high, with some regions experiencing intermittent heatwaves; the resulting surge in electricity demand provides strong support for the coal sector.
Analysts believe that, driven by the dual catalysts of anticipated coke price hikes and peak summer coal demand, the coal sector is likely to maintain its strong momentum in the short term.
