Macroeconomics
1. [Automotive] Data from the CPCA (China Passenger Car Association) shows that retail sales of passenger vehicles nationwide totaled 1.461 million units in July, a year-on-year decrease of 20.9%. Of this total, retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 951,000 units (down 3.9% year-on-year, with a market penetration rate of 65.1%), while retail sales of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles stood at 510,000 units (down 41% year-on-year). Exports of new energy passenger vehicles in July amounted to 540,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 147.8%.
2. [Australian Interest Rates] The Reserve Bank of Australia announced on the 11th that it would keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.35%, in line with market expectations. While the central bank maintained the rate, it also warned that inflationary risks persist.
Steels
1. [Hot rolled coils] On August 10, the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee issued an announcement issuing a final affirmative anti-dumping ruling regarding hot-rolled coils of iron or non-alloy steel produced by China's Wuhan Iron & Steel Group Corporation. It recommended the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the company and its exporters for a period of five years, in the form of either an ad valorem duty of 4.87% or a specific duty of US$28.06 per metric ton.
2. [Ferrosilicon] Shandong Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. has released procurement details for ferrosilicon for August 2026, planning to purchase 200 tonnes of 75-B grade ferrosilicon with a delivery deadline of August 31, 2026.
Lingyuan Iron & Steel has issued a tender announcement for ferrosilicon. The procurement covers ferrosilicon with specifications of 10–70 mm and grade FeSi72Al2.0, totaling 620 tonnes. The bid submission deadline is 13:00 on August 13, and the delivery deadline is September 30, 2026.
3. [Rebar] On August 11, Shagang announced its ex-factory prices for mid-August, keeping prices for rebar, high-speed wire rod, and coiled rebar stable for the time being. Specifically, the ex-factory price for HRB400 rebar (Φ16–20mm) is 3,300 RMB/ton; for HPB300 carbon high-speed wire rod (Φ6–10mm), it is 3,240 RMB/ton; and for HRB400 coiled rebar (Φ8–10mm), it is 3,330 RMB/ton.
4. [Galvanized Sheet] Bensteel released its price list for cold-rolled products for August 2026. The base price for cold-rolled sheet is 4,850 RMB/ton; full-hard sheet is 4,750 RMB/ton; the base price for galvanized and Zn-Al-Mg coated sheet is 5,150 RMB/ton; hot-rolled pickled sheet is 4,700 RMB/ton; and electro-galvanized sheet is 5,200 RMB/ton. All prices exclude tax.
5. [Iron Ore] Satellite data indicates that between August 3 and August 9, 2026, the total iron ore inventory at seven major ports in Australia and Brazil stood at 12.333 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.468 million tonnes from the previous period. Port inventories continued their downward trend, with current stock levels falling to their lowest point since the start of the third quarter.
