Isobutyraldehyde prices rose in August
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the domestic quote for isobutyraldehyde stood at 7,266.67 RMB/ton as of August 10, marking a significant increase of 9.00% from the 6,666.67 RMB/ton recorded on August 1. This sharp rise was driven by a rally in the downstream neopentyl glycol market—which bolstered demand for isobutyraldehyde—and a rebound in the price of the raw material propylene; the combination of rising costs and increased demand support pushed isobutyraldehyde prices up significantly.
Propylene Prices Rebounded After Stopping Their Decline
According to the SunSirs commodity market analysis system, the quoted price for propylene on August 10 was 8,161 RMB/ton. This reflects a rise of 2.94% from the August 1 price of 7,927.67 RMB/ton (following an initial dip) and a 3.82% increase from the August 3 price of 7,861 RMB/ton. Amidst ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, crude oil prices have remained high and consolidated; this trend has transmitted to downstream markets, causing propylene prices to rebound and strengthening cost support for isobutyraldehyde.
Downstream demand supportedisobutyraldehyde prices
Neopentyl glycol prices surged in August. On August 10, Yantai Wanhua quoted prices at 9,450-9,600 RMB/ton, a significant increase from the 8,850-8,000 RMB/ton quoted on August 1; Luxi Chemical quoted neopentyl glycol at 8,050 RMB/ton, up sharply from the 7,700 RMB/ton quoted on August 1. The sharp rise in neopentyl glycol prices has bolstered demand for isobutyraldehyde.
Market Overview and Forecast
Analysts at SunSirs specializing in the isobutyraldehyde industry observe the following: In August, propylene prices rebounded after halting their decline, driving up isobutyraldehyde production costs. On the demand side, the price of neopentyl glycol surged, providing stronger support for isobutyraldehyde demand. Overall, driven by rising costs and robust demand support—coupled with reduced operating rates, a strong manufacturer resolve to maintain price levels, a scarcity of low-priced supplies, and low inventory—isobutyraldehyde prices are expected to trend upward with some volatility in the near future.
