According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, China imported 580,000 tonnes of natural and synthetic rubber in July 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%.

From January to July 2026, China's total imports of natural and synthetic rubber (including latex) amounted to 4.515 million tonnes, down 4.1% year-on-year.

With China's natural and synthetic rubber imports falling 8.5% year-on-year in July and 4.1% cumulatively from January to July, the contraction in natural rubber import supply has benefited domestic spot prices. On August 7, 2026, the settlement price for the SHFE natural rubber benchmark contract (2609) closed at 16,900 RMB/tonne—up 105 RMB/tonne from the previous settlement—as expectations of tight supply supported a strong performance in futures prices.

Polybutadiene rubber is a type of synthetic rubber; the year-on-year decline in total domestic rubber imports and the marginal tightening of supply have benefited its spot price. On August 7, the SHFE butadiene rubber benchmark contract (2609) closed at 13,185 RMB/tonne—up 325 RMB/tonne from the previous settlement—with futures prices strengthening due to this support.

Styrene-butadiene rubber is a type of synthetic rubber; the year-on-year drop in domestic imports of natural and synthetic rubber and the contraction in supply have benefited SBR spot prices, creating upward momentum for the market.

Nitrile rubber is a type of synthetic rubber; the year-on-year decline in total domestic rubber imports and expectations of tight supply have benefited NBR spot prices, supporting a strong market performance.
