On August 6, the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) released market data showing that sales volume in the European replacement tire market rose by 3.1% year-on-year to 57.38 million units in the second quarter of 2026.
Natural rubber is a core raw material for tire production; the 3.1% year-on-year increase in European replacement tire sales boosts demand for upstream natural rubber. On August 6, the benchmark natural rubber contract (2609) on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed at 16,895 RMB/tonne, up 85 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day, reflecting a trend of price strength in the short term.
Butadiene rubber (BR) is another key raw material for tire production, and the growth in European tire sales has improved expectations for raw material demand. On August 6, the benchmark butadiene rubber contract (2609) on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed at 12,955 RMB/tonne, up 55 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day, indicating strong price support.
Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is a vital raw material for tire production; the rise in European replacement tire sales has bolstered demand expectations, providing a slight boost to spot prices.
Nitrile rubber is primarily used in oil-resistant rubber products; the growth in European replacement tire sales has had a limited impact on demand for this material, resulting in a neutral effect on its price.
