1. [Electricity Consumption] The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced that on July 10, national electricity load hit a record high of 1.518 billion kilowatts, an increase of 10 million kilowatts over the previous peak. Since the start of summer, the Southern Regional Power Grid and multiple provincial grids—including those in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Ningxia, Gansu, Fujian, and Shaanxi—have seen their electricity loads set new historical records on more than 20 occasions.
2. [Automobiles] The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released data showing that from July 1 to 5, national retail sales of passenger cars totaled 169,000 units—down 15% year-on-year but up 4% compared to the same period last month. Cumulative retail sales for the year reached 8.87 million units, a year-on-year decline of 20%. During the same period, retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) totaled 103,000 units—down 9% year-on-year and down 6% compared to the same period last month—with cumulative sales for the year reaching 4.807 million units (down 14% year-on-year). The retail penetration rate for NEVs stood at 60.5% during this period.
3. [US-Iran Conflict] U.S. Central Command announced on social media on the 12th that, at 5:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time that day, U.S. forces launched a new round of strikes against Iran aimed at "further degrading its ability to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz."
4. [Japan Interest Rates] The Bank of Japan plans to keep interest rates unchanged in July but will maintain its policy guidance, committing to continue the process of raising rates.
Agricultural Products
1. [Soybeans] USDA export sales data shows that for the week ending July 2, net U.S. soybean export sales for the current marketing year rose by 54,349 tonnes—a 30% increase from the previous week but an 81% decrease from the four-week average. Net sales to mainland China totaled 202,117 tonnes.
2. [Rapeseed] EU data indicates a 29% year-on-year decline in EU rapeseed imports for the 2025/26 season. While import shares from Australia and Ukraine fell, Canada's share increased. Australia remained the EU's top rapeseed supplier, with volumes reaching 2.14 million tonnes (down 40.6% year-on-year) and its market share dropping from 47.8% to 39.7%.
3. [Grains] Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture reported that as of July 8, 2026, grain exports for the 2026/27 season (which began in July) totaled 710,000 tonnes, an 80.5% increase year-on-year. This figure comprised 381,000 tonnes of wheat, zero tonnes of barley, and 331,000 tonnes of corn.
4. [Corn] The National Association of Grain Exporters of Brazil (ANEC) estimated Brazil's corn exports for July 2026 at 2.49 million tonnes, down from 3.97 million tonnes during the same period last year.
5. [Palm Oil] Indonesian Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated on July 9 that as the proportion of palm oil-based fuel in diesel increases from the previous 40% (B40) to 50%, Indonesia's consumption of crude palm oil for biodiesel production is projected to reach 16.3–17.0 million tonnes annually, up from the current 15.2 million tonnes.
6. [Palm Oil] According to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysia's palm oil exports in June totaled 1,204,013 tonnes, up 6.19% month-on-month; imports were 103,113 tonnes, up 135.33%; production was 1,638,777 tonnes, up 8.08%; and inventory levels stood at 2,544,066 tonnes, up 4.78%.
