Isobutyraldehyde prices rose
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the domestic quote for isobutyraldehyde stood at 6,666.67 RMB/ton as of July 9, marking a 1.52% rebound from the price of 6,566.67 RMB/ton recorded on July 1. The price of isobutyraldehyde rose from its low point, driven by a rally in the downstream neopentyl glycol market—which bolstered demand—and an increase in the cost of the raw material propylene.
The price of the raw material propylene was rising with fluctuations
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the quoted price for propylene on July 9 was 7,921 RMB/ton. Compared to the price of 7,811 RMB/ton on July 1, the price initially fell before rising, marking a 1.41% increase; compared to the price of 7,647.67 RMB/ton on July 6, it rose with some fluctuation, an increase of 3.57%. As the U.S. tightened sanctions on Iranian oil, the shipping security crisis in the Strait of Hormuz intensified and U.S.-Iran tensions escalated, causing crude oil prices to rise; this upward pressure was transmitted downstream, leading to a rebound in propylene prices and providing stronger cost support for isobutyraldehyde.
Supported by isobutyraldehyde demand
Neopentyl glycol prices rose in July. On July 9, Yantai Wanhua quoted the product at 7,850–8,000 RMB/ton—reflecting an initial decline followed by a rise compared to the July 1 quote of 7,950–8,100 RMB/ton—while Luxi Chemical quoted it at 7,000 RMB/ton, an increase from the 6,800 RMB/ton quoted on July 1. Neopentyl glycol prices have halted their decline and are now rising; the slump in isobutyraldehyde demand has eased, and upward pressure on isobutyraldehyde prices continues to provide market support.
Market Overview and Forecast
Analysts at SunSirs specializing in the isobutyraldehyde industry observe the following: In July, propylene prices rebounded after falling, driving up isobutyraldehyde production costs. On the demand side, neopentyl glycol prices also recovered, easing the pressure of sluggish demand for isobutyraldehyde. Overall, rising costs and a slight easing of demand weakness—combined with a strong determination among suppliers to maintain price levels—suggest an upward trend for isobutyraldehyde prices; however, limited support from downstream markets constrains the potential for significant gains. Consequently, isobutyraldehyde prices are expected to experience a trend of slight, fluctuating increases in the near future.
