As of July 3, 2026, polyethylene inventories at sampled social warehouses stood at 365,850 tonnes, a decrease of 11,180 tonnes (or 2.97%) from the previous period.
The 2.97% month-on-month decline in polyethylene social inventories has eased supply-side pressure, providing support for LLDPE spot prices. On July 7, the benchmark polyethylene futures contract (2609) closed 81 RMB/tonne higher; significant increases in trading volume and open interest, alongside rising demand for long positions, drove the futures price upward, bolstering LLDPE valuations.
With overall polyethylene inventories retreating, the spot supply-demand balance for LDPE—a core polyethylene grade—has seen marginal improvement. Traders are showing a stronger willingness to hold firm on prices, providing positive support for spot rates. Broad gains across polyethylene futures contracts have fueled bullish market sentiment, driving up valuations for LDPE.
Polyethylene inventories fell by nearly 3% month-on-month; the supply of HDPE available for spot trading has tightened, strengthening support for spot prices and favoring an upward trend. A rally across the polyethylene futures market has further improved expectations for HDPE, creating room for price appreciation.
