The final sugar mill in Yunnan Province successfully concluded its crushing operations for the 2025/26 season on June 27, marking the end of a 241-day season. Nationwide, cumulative white sugar production reached 12.966 million tonnes, an increase of 1.804 million tonnes (or 16.16%) compared to the previous season. Regarding the spot market, the substantial rise in supply—driven by the 16.16% production increase—has exerted downward pressure on spot prices. In the futures market, the main Zhengzhou white sugar contract (SR2609) closed at 5,277 RMB/tonne on July 1, 2026, down 11 RMB/tonne; open interest decreased by 13,570 lots, as the market trended weaker in response to the news of increased production.
