Customs data shows that China's edible vegetable oil imports totaled 500,000 tonnes in May 2026, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year.
With the 8.2% year-on-year rise in imports increasing overall supply-side pressure, spot prices for rapeseed oil—a mainstream edible vegetable oil—have been weighed down by expectations of ample supply. On June 22, 2026, the benchmark rapeseed oil contract (2609) on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed at 9,669 RMB/tonne, down 41 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day; open interest decreased by 2,799 lots, reflecting a weak short-term market trend.
