1. [Industrial Value Added] National Bureau of Statistics: In May, the value added of industrial enterprises above designated size grew by 4.5% year-on-year in real terms, an acceleration of 0.4 percentage points from the previous month. Month-on-month, the value added of these enterprises rose by 0.40% in May. For the January–May period, the value added of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 5.4% year-on-year.
2. [Power Generation] National Bureau of Statistics: In May, power generation by industrial enterprises above designated size totaled 784.3 billion kWh, up 4.2% year-on-year—an acceleration of 1.6 percentage points compared to April—with an average daily output of 25.3 billion kWh. From January to May, total power generation by these enterprises reached 3,912.9 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.
3. [Bank of Japan Rate Hike] The Bank of Japan announced a 25-basis-point rate hike, raising its target rate from 0.75% to 1.00%, in line with expectations. The bank stated that it would pause the reduction of bond purchases starting in April 2027, maintaining the monthly purchase volume of Japanese government bonds at approximately 2 trillion yen.
4. [Central Bank of Chile Interest Rate] The Central Bank of Chile kept its key interest rate unchanged at 4.5%, matching market expectations.
Non-ferrous Metals
1. [Aluminum Foil] According to foreign media reports, following applications from companies such as Hindalco Industries and SRF Altech, India has decided to extend the anti-dumping duties on imports of aluminum foil (80 microns or less in thickness) from China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia until December 15, 2026.
2. [Lead] It is reported that major primary lead smelters in Central China plan to conduct annual equipment maintenance between late July and August. Lead ingot production will be affected during this period, with an estimated monthly output loss of around 9,000 tonnes; supply levels from July through September will fall short of normal monthly volumes. The maintenance is expected to conclude and full production to resume by the end of September.
3. [Aluminum] Chinalco: Spot prices for aluminum ingots (AL99.70) across various regions on June 16 were as follows: East China market quoted at 23,800 RMB/ton; South China market at 23,790 RMB/ton; Southwest China market at 23,780 RMB/ton; and Central China market at 23,740 RMB/ton. These represent decreases of 330 RMB/ton, 350 RMB/ton, 330 RMB/ton, and 310 RMB/ton, respectively, compared to the prices on June 15.
4. [Aluminum] National Bureau of Statistics: China's electrolytic aluminum output in May 2026 was 3.89 million tonnes, up 1.7% year-on-year; output for January–May totaled 19.22 million tonnes, a cumulative year-on-year increase of 3.5%. Output of ten non-ferrous metals in May was 6.98 million tonnes, up 2.2% year-on-year; cumulative output for January–May was 34.38 million tonnes, up 3.1% year-on-year.
5. [Aluminum] According to customs data, China exported 632,000 tonnes of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products in May 2026; cumulative exports for January–May totaled 2.685 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%.
6. [Magnesium] According to incomplete statistics from the Magnesium Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, China's primary magnesium output in May 2026 was approximately 110,200 tonnes, up 14.2% month-on-month and 43.5% year-on-year. Total primary magnesium output for January–May 2026 was approximately 501,400 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 25.79%. Specifically, cumulative production in Shaanxi was approximately 355,600 tonnes (up 44.91% year-on-year); Shanxi produced approximately 69,300 tonnes (down 17.5%); Inner Mongolia produced approximately 17,200 tonnes (up 5.52%); Xinjiang produced approximately 23,300 tonnes (up 33.91%); and other regions produced approximately 36,000 tonnes.
