Isooctanol prices fluctuated upwards in June
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the price of isooctanol stood at 8,133.33 RMB/ton on June 8, marking a fluctuating rise of 2.09% from the 7,966.67 RMB/ton recorded at the beginning of the month. Since the start of June, several leading enterprises in Shandong have frequently raised their quotes, demonstrating a clear intent to support prices; this has pushed the market level slightly upward, with the isooctanol market experiencing a period of moderate price growth.
High propylene costs provided diminishing support
According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the quoted price for propylene on June 8 was 8,824.33 RMB/ton, down 2.36% from the 9,037.67 RMB/ton quoted on June 1. The propylene market is currently in a phase of bottoming out; while strong macroeconomic signals provide a safety cushion—keeping prices range-bound—the market lacks upward momentum. Consequently, isooctanol continues to face downward pressure on costs.
Ample supply of isooctanol
In 2026, approximately 1.14 million tonnes per year of new capacity is expected to come online, bringing total supply to an estimated 3.73 million tonnes. In May, operating rates at isooctanol plants declined, leading to reduced supply and stronger upward pressure on prices.
Market Outlook
Analysts at the SunSirs isooctanol division observe a market recovery in June; however, looking at the year as a whole, the market continues to face significant downward pressure stemming from previously high price levels. With substantial overcapacity in the industry and a surge of new production capacity coming online in June, inventory pressure is likely to escalate rapidly, acting as a key constraint on future price upside. Market prices for isooctanol are expected to undergo wide-ranging fluctuations and consolidation in the near term.
