According to Chinese customs data, total rapeseed imports from January to April 2026 stood at 693,500 tonnes, a year-on-year decline of 50.04% compared to the same period last year (1.388 million tonnes).
Rapeseed is the primary raw material for rapeseed oil production; the 50.04% drop in imports has significantly tightened the domestic supply of raw materials, providing strong bullish support for rapeseed oil spot prices. In the futures market, rapeseed oil contracts on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE) closed higher across the board on June 3, with the 2703 contract rising by 176 RMB/tonne in a single day; expectations of tight supply and demand are driving the upward trend in futures prices.
Rapeseed meal is a key by-product of rapeseed crushing; the sharp decline in rapeseed imports is expected to constrain domestic rapeseed meal supplies, a factor generally favorable for spot prices. While ZCE rapeseed meal contracts saw a slight short-term pullback on June 3, the long-term outlook of tight supply and demand continues to provide upward support for futures prices.
