As of the 2025/2026 crushing season, 46 sugar mills in Yunnan have concluded their operations—a year-on-year decrease of 6 mills. The combined daily crushing capacity of these closed mills stands at 167,400 tons. Currently, 6 sugar mills in Yunnan have yet to finish their operations; another 2 to 3 mills are expected to conclude operations this week.
Yunnan is a major domestic sugar-producing region. The latest data reveals that 46 mills have concluded operations for the 2025/2026 season—down by 6 compared to the previous year. With only 6 mills remaining to be closed (and another 2 to 3 expected to close this week), it is highly probable that Yunnan's sugar output for this season will decline year-on-year. This expectation of a contraction in domestic sugar supply is providing support to spot white sugar prices. In the futures market, the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange's (ZCE) benchmark white sugar contract (SR2609) closed on June 2, 2026, at 5,433 RMB per ton—an increase of 4 RMB per ton from the previous trading day. Trading volume reached 375,600 lots, with open interest standing at 657,400 lots; expectations of a tightening supply continue to underpin a bullish trend in futures prices.
