SunSirs: Analysis of the Impact of Reduced EU Palm Oil Imports
June 02 2026 14:54:14SunSirs(Selena)

According to EU data, as of May 24, 2026, EU palm oil imports for the 2025/26 marketing year have declined by 4% year-on-year. This trend reflects the long-term constraining effect of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) on palm oil demand. Specifically, export volumes and market share from Indonesia have decreased, while those from Malaysia and Guatemala have increased.

The EU is a major consumer region for palm oil; the 4% year-on-year decline in imports recorded through May 24 of the 2025/26 marketing year—coupled with the persistent downward pressure exerted on demand by the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III)—indicates that the demand side remains under overall strain. Consequently, this situation exerts a generally bearish influence on palm oil prices.
