Expana (formerly Strategie Grains) has lowered its forecast for EU rapeseed production in the 2026/27 marketing year. The production estimate for 2026/27 was reduced by 300,000 tonnes—a slight downward revision from the 20.6 million tonnes projected last month to 20.3 million tonnes.
With Expana cutting its EU rapeseed production forecast for 2026/27 by 300,000 tonnes, expectations for rapeseed supply have tightened, thereby providing support to downstream rapeseed meal prices. On May 29, 2026, the most active ZCE rapeseed meal futures contract (symbol 2609) closed at 2,301 RMB/tonne, with a settlement price of 2,304 RMB/tonne—an increase of 10 RMB/tonne. With open interest exceeding 1 million lots, the expectation of a tightening supply-demand balance is providing moderate bullish support to rapeseed meal prices.
The slight downward revision in the EU's rapeseed production forecast implies a marginal tightening of global rapeseed supplies. As a downstream product, rapeseed oil is receiving support on the cost side; consequently, its price possesses upward momentum, resulting in a generally bullish outlook for rapeseed oil prices overall.
