SunSirs: The Domestic Ammonium Sulfate Market Declined from a High Level in May
June 02 2026 13:44:02SunSirs(John)

Price Trends

According to the SunSirs Commodity Market Analysis System, the average domestic market price for caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate stood at 1,666 RMB/ton on May 29. This compares to an average price of 1,910 RMB/ton on May 1, marking a 12.74% decline in market prices for caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate over the course of the month.

Market Analysis:

This month, domestic market prices for ammonium sulfate experienced a significant decline. Operating rates for coking-grade production saw only minor fluctuations, while those for caprolactam-grade production decreased. During the first half of the month, ammonium sulfate market prices edged upward; however, in the latter half of the month, prices began to retreat. With market inventories running high—resulting in an oversupply of ammonium sulfate—and prices already sitting at elevated levels following a period of consecutive increases, downstream buyers adopted a cautious approach to procurement, leading to a sharp drop in market prices. As of May 29, the prevailing ex-factory quotation for coking-grade ammonium sulfate in the Shandong region stood at approximately 1,050 RMB/ton. For caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate, the prevailing ex-factory quotation in the Shandong region ranged from approximately 1,650 to 1,680 RMB/ton.

According to data from SunSirs, domestic ammonium sulfate prices exhibited mixed trends—fluctuating between gains and losses—during the reporting period. In May, domestic ammonium sulfate prices experienced a significant decline, with the sharpest drop—totaling 6.02%—occurring during the week of May 18.

Market Outlook:

According to analysts at SunSirs, domestic ammonium sulfate prices have recently followed a predominantly downward trend. Currently, end-user demand remains weak, and market trading activity has slowed. It is anticipated that, in the short term, domestic ammonium sulfate market prices will continue to trend lower.
